The
Open Beef Show at the Fall Fair has been a tradition since the very first Fall Fair. This is a chance to bring out your best
livestock and show them off to the District. It is the time to show what quality of cattle you have been working so hard for
on your Farm. It is not only good competition, but it is just a plain good time. Often we have exhibitors not only from Rainy
River Valley, but Dryden, Thunder Bay and Manitoba as well. A lot of laughter and friendship strike up during the fall fair.
There
are classes for all age of cattle, male and female. If one breed has more than 15 animals present, they are then entitled
to their own breed show and then compete for over-all Grand Champion. The classes have grown over the years and they now include
a Jackpot Heifer Class, Open Showmanship - and this means Open - if you are walking through the barn and decide you would
like to try showing you just need to ask to borrow a animal and you can compete in this class, Breeders Herd and a special
class for kids that are too young for 4-H.
One of the most special classes we have now is the Andy Carpenter Memorial Herdsman
Award, every person that shows in the Open Beef Show votes on the person who is deserving of this award - it is a "Sportsmanship"
award and the lucky herdsman receives a beautiful engraved belt buckle.
Just take a few minutes and walk through the barn
- you may need to watch were you step, but the farms will have a beautiful decorated stall and top of the line cattle. Take
a few minutes and visit the barn - have you seen a cow have a bath and haircut - it is something you won't want to miss.
